The draw for the group stage of the U17 European Championships was made on Thursday, with Netherlands set for a rematch with England, who beat them in last years final.

netherlands u17Netherlands faced England twice during last years tournament, winning in the group stage, but when the two met in the final, Maarten Stekelenburg’s side were defeated on penalties. A rematch will take place in this years tournament with the two nations drawn together in Group D of the sixteen team tournament.

Also drawn into Netherlands group are the Republic of Ireland and Italy. The tournament begins for the Dutch on the 7th of May, and could run up to the 22nd, should Netherlands reach the final.

The tournament acts as a qualification tournament for the 2015 U17’s World Cup in Chile, with six places awarded to the four semi-finalists and two winners of a play-off between losing quarter finalists.
