The young Dutch side went into the game off the back of the first group match win over Denmark which left them only needing a win against Liechtenstein to progress to the next round of qualifying, and they achieved that with ease.
Netherlands opened the scoring early in the game through Vitesse forward Thomas Buitink and from that moment the floodgate opened with further goals from Sparta’s Bradly van Hoeven, Chelsea’s Juan Familio-Castillo and Buitink again making it 4-0 before the 20 minute mark. To make matters worse for Liechtenstein they were reduced to ten men with Jonas Hilti seeing red.
The Liechtenstein defence managed to prevent any further goals until the 49th minute when Feyenoord’s Lutsharel Geertruida latched onto a Castillo pass before firing in the Dutch’s fifth. Two minutes later Niklas Beck netted an own goal and it was swiftly 8-0 thanks to further goals from van Hoeven and Geertruida.
In the final minute Ajax forward Daishawn Redan wrapped up the comfortable victory. Netherlands face Hungary in the final group game on the 3rd of October.
