The win over Italy in the last game ensured that the Netherlands only needed a victory to book their place in the last eight of the competition, but they were frustrated by Serbia in a goalless first half.
Eventually, the breakthrough came on 72 minutes through an own goal by Marko Ilic and then Feyenoord striker Dylan Vente struck in stoppage time to seal the victory.
Netherlands will now face Sweden in the Quarter finals after they came top of a group containing Denmark, England and France.
