Netherlands U17’s are close to guaranteeing their spot at this summer’s European Championships after a 2-0 win over Italy on Saturday.

The young Dutch side started their qualifying campaign with a 2-1 win over Iceland on Wednesday and are now almost certain of a place in the Euros after proving too strong for Italy.

Daishawn Redan, who netted twice against Iceland was a constant danger in the first half, but it was Nigel Thomas who broke the deadlock four minutes before the break after a swift counter.

Netherlands remained in control in the second half but had to wait until injury time to double the lead with Redan firing in a deserved goal.

A draw against Turkey on Tuesday will be enough to book Netherlands place in the tournament. However, they are almost certain to qualify as one of the best runners up even if they fail to finish top.
