Netherlands U17’s have lifted the Algarve Cup after a 3-1 victory over Germany on Tuesday.

Netherlands started the four nations tournament with a 1-1 draw with Spain before defeating Portugal 2-1.

Against Germany, Netherlands dominated but found themselves behind to a Nick Woltemade strike.

However, Ajax forward Sontje Hansen found the equaliser two minutes into the second half after being set up by AZ’s Mohamed Taabouni. The goal gave Oranje plenty of confidence and they took the lead through a lovely Taabouni free-kick.

The victory and the tournament was sealed when Hansen was fouled in the box which allowed Ajax midfielder Kenneth Taylor to score the third from the penalty box.

The tournament victory is a boost for Netherlands U17’s, who will face Northern Ireland, Israel and the Czech Republic in European Championship qualifiers next month.
