Netherlands U19’s defeated hosts Israel 4-1 on Tuesday afternoon to seal the top spot in their qualifying group.

Netherlands were already assured of a place in the next round of qualifying after wins over Moldova and Cyprus, but Tuesday’s game against Israel was important. Both sides had six points so the winner would take top spot and a seeded spot for the next round.

Netherlands only had 11 players available due to a coronavirus outbreak in the squad, which also affected head coach Bert Konterman.

Mylian Jiminez opened the scoring after ten minutes for the young Dutch side, but Israel hit back through Ahmad Ibrahim. In first-half stoppage time, Xavi Simons set up Emmanuel Emegha to make it 2-1.

In the second half, Simons got on the scoresheet before AZ Alkmaar midfielder Fedde de Jong wrapped up the victory.

Netherlands top the group and now must prepare for the elite round of qualification which takes place next year.
