Jong Oranje boss made several changes from the side that beat Finland last week, with the likes of Abdelhak Nouri, Donny van de Beek and Richairo Zivkovic coming into the starting eleven.

The changed side got off to a horrible start on three minutes with Marko Kvasina firing past Yanick van Osch to give Austria an early lead, which Netherlands couldn’t recover from. Any chance of a comeback was ended just before the hour mark with Groningen winger Oussama Idrissi sent off.

Netherlands U21 line-up: van Osch, Diks, Fosu-Mensah, St Juste, Ouwejan, Til, van de Beek, Rosario, Nouri, Idrissi, Zivkovic

Later in the day Netherlands U18’s took on the Czech Republic in a friendly and ran out comfortable 5-0 winners with Ajax midfielder Noa Lang netting a hat-trick. Justin Londwijk and Che Nunnely also netted for the young Dutch side.

Netherlands U18 line-up: Van de Meulenhof, Bakboord (70. Asmelash), Markelo, Obispo, Kemper (19. Culhaci), Lopez (63. Kaars), Fernandes (70. Van der Gaag), Lonwijk (60. Van de Looi), Nunnely, Malen, Lang (60. Gakpo).
