Netherlands U21’s have booked their ticket for next summer’s European Championships after a 7-0 win in Cyprus.

Due to disciplinary reasons, Myron Boadu was placed on the bench for the tie in Cyprus with Joshua Zirkzee making his first start for Jong Oranje. Jurgen Ekkelenkamp also started in place of Dani de Wit.

Due to Belgium dropping points, Netherlands knew a win in Cyprus would assure their place at next summer’s tournament, either as group winner or as one of the best runners-up.

Ryan Gravenberch scored the only goal of the first-half with a fine strike from distance. Early in the second half, Ekkelenkamp tapped in a second after a Zirkzee cross. The Bayern Munich striker then set up Kaj Sierhuis to net the third.

In the 65th minute, a fine team move ended with Ekkelenkamp firing in his second of the game, before Sierhuis added the fifth. Boadu came off the bench to hammer in the sixth before Sierhuis completed his hattrick from the penalty spot.

Netherlands have now won eight out of eight in the group and ease to the European Championships next summer.
