Netherlands are through to the semi-finals of the women’s European Championships after a 2-0 victory over Sweden on Saturday night.

Sweden began the quarter-final strongly, but as the first half wore on Netherlands gained the upper hand and took the lead on 33 minutes. Lieke Martens firing a free-kick past the wall and into the bottom corner.

After the goal the match remained tightly balanced with Fridolina Rolfö missing a great chance to equalise just after the break, while at the other end Stina Blackstenius fired wide.

Then in the 63rd minute, Vivianne Miedema answered her critics by finishing off Shanice van de Sanden cross to book Netherlands place in the semi-finals.

Oranje will now play the winner of France v England in the last four.
