knvb head offThe structure which introduces a brand new 18 team second division in between the Topklasse and Eerste Divisie has been confirmed for some time, but the clubs have been voting over what the fourth tier of the league structure should be called.

Instead of continuing with Topklasse, it will be called the derde divisie, which will be split into Saturday and Sunday sections. The clubs were offered the chance to split the league’s into two based on region, but that has now been voted against.

The new structure of Dutch football can be seen in the below picture (via NOS), and for the first time since league’s were made professional in 1954, relegation and promotion between all divisions comes into effect.
