Yesterday Wijnaldum told the press that the media was much more interested in transfer news than he was, as he took part in his first day of training with the Dutch champions. He must have winked to himself as a few hours later as Newcastle confirmed they are talking to PSV and the captain about a £15 million move.
According to the Mirror, Newcastle confirmed to them that talks are in an “early stage” but the completion of the deal is not imminent.
Wijnaldum has stated earlier this summer that he feels ready to move to a more elite league than the Eredivisie, with Zenit st Petersburg, PSG, Marseille, and Monaco all linked with the 24-year-old, along with Newcastle’s rivals Sunderland.
If he does join the Magpies, he’ll join numerous other Dutch internationals – Tim Krul, Daryl Janmaat, Vurnon Anita and Siem De Jong.
