finnbogason eAccording to the Sunday People, Newcastle will speed up their interest in the Eredivisie’s top scorer if they fail to sign West Brom striker Shane Long.

Long has impressed for the Baggies in recent games, and Newcastle believe they will be beaten to his signature by bigger clubs in January.

With Papiss Cisse out of form, and their top scorer Loic Remy only on loan, Newcastle manager Alan Pardew is now set to turn to Finnbogason to bolster his attack.

Finnbogason has been in great form so far this season for Heerenveen, netting 14 goals in 11 league games, which is a better record at this time of the season than Wilfred Bony, now at Swansea, had at Vitesse last season.

All across Europe, clubs have been alerted to the Icelandic internationals form, and Italian clubs Roma, and Lazio are also looking to make a move in January.

With his contract running until 2015, Heerenveen are believed to want around €10 million if they are to part with their top scorer.
