Heerenveen are still searching for their first home victory of the season after being held to a 1-1 draw by Utrecht. Jens Odgaard saw a late penalty saved.

The home side went into the game searching for their second win of the campaign, having failed to register three points since the opening day of the campaign. Utrecht were looking to make it two wins of the bounce.

The visitors took the lead in the 18th minute when Gyrano Kerk raced in on goal and lobbed the ball over an onrushing Warner Hahn.

Heerenveen woke up after the opener and they find the equaliser after half an hour. Mitchell van Bergen raced to the byline before picking out Chidera Ejuke to net.

Both sides created chances in the second half but it was Heerenveen who had the greatest opportunity to take three points. Jens Odgaard was pushed to the ground and a penalty was awarded. The striker stepped up but his spot-kick was saved Maarten Paes, who diverted the ball away with his feet.

The striker was almost immediately substituted and showed his frustrations by racing straight down the tunnel. In injury time, Utrecht could have snatched the three points but Hahn made a great save to deny Bart Ramselaar. The rebound just evaded Justin Hoogma.

The point means Utrecht rise to 6th while Heerenveen are 13th with four draws from their opening seven games.
