Dick Advocaat has officially extended his contract with Feyenoord for another year.

The 72-year-old took over Feyenoord in January after Jaap Stam was sacked, and signed a contract until the end of the season. Since then the club have been unbeaten in the Eredivisie and are in the KNVB Cup final.

For weeks there have been talks to convince Advocaat to stay for another season. Feyenoord have now confirmed that Advocaat has signed a new deal that will take him to the end of next season.

Advocaat told the club’s website, “It feels strange in these times, but in the end it also feels good to extend my contract with this beautiful club. Certainly in the past few crazy weeks, I noticed how passionate I am and how much I want to continue as a trainer. We were here at Feyenoord, until everything came to a standstill, with something beautiful, something really started to develop within the team. I want that, we want to finish that as staff and selection. The club also wants that, so we aim for it, despite the many uncertainties that are currently present.”
