John’s contract at Benfica ends in a year, and the winger has confirmed his wish to remain at Reading, if he has no future in Lisbon.

He told Get Reading, “I have one year left with Benfica and I don’t know want they want,” said the 23-year-old .

“I haven’t spoken with them yet. We will do that is the summer and then I’ll see what my options are and what Reading can do of course.

“But I’m happy here. I’m playing now and it’s a good club. I like the fans so anything is possible.”

When asked if he wants to remain at Reading, John stated, “I hope so. I’m really happy with how things are going at the moment.

“But in football anything can happen. Maybe I have to go back to Benfica. Nobody knows.

“I’m still a Benfica player so we’ll see at the end of the season.”

John has made 21 appearances for Reading, scoring twice and adding three assists.
