john benficAccording to Fox Sports, Benfica have decided to put Dutch winger Ola John on the market in order to generate interest and raise transfer funds. Ola John, who spent last season on loan at Reading, has recently been dropped to the Benfica second team in order to convince him to leave the Estádio da Luz.

John still has a contract in Benfica until 2018 and it is thought that the Portuguese champions want around €6 million euros for the twenty-four-year-old. John and his management are hoping that Benfica will be flexible, with their transfer demands, in order to allow his player to leave should any club come forward with genuine interest.

Feyenoord are known to be searching for a right winger as Giovanni van Bronckhorst confirmed that he is looking to strengthen that area of the squad. The Rotterdam club had been linked to Steven Berghuis earlier this summer but the player has chosen to stay at Watford.

PSV confirmed, via spokesman Thijs Slegers, that Ola John had been offered to them, telling Fox Sports, “Ola John has been offered to us.” PSV have recently lost Maxime Lestienne and with Luciano Narsingh in the last year of his deal, the Eindhoven club maybe looking for some insurance with Ola John. Feyenoord declined to comment on the speculation. The reported fee of €6 million euros may present a stumbling block for both Feyenoord and PSV should they wish to pursue any interest in Ola John.

English clubs Reading and West Bromwich Albion are thought to be interesting in the Dutch Winger, but John sees the Netherlands as his number one destination to get his career back on track. John’s agent and brother Collins John confirmed this to Fox Sports, saying “he looks to the Netherlands as certainly a nice option to get his career back on track and a push in the right direction.”

Despite being only twenty-four years old, Ola John has already won the Portuguese League, Portuguese League Cup and KNVB Beker twice along with the Eredivisie and Portuguese Cup. Throughout his career he has made two hundred appearances for Benfica, FC Twente, Hamburg and Reading scoring twenty-three goals and contributing forty-three assists.
