toiv aToivonen was expected to leave PSV this month with the Swede’s contract expiring in the summer, and the Eindhoven club keen to clear a high earner from their wage bill after bringing in Bryan Ruiz.

A number of clubs had been linked with a move for Toivonen including Liverpool, and Besiktas, but it appears that Stade Rennes have won the battle.

The 27-year-old will undergo a medical in France on Monday before putting pen to paper on a deal to leave the Eredivisie after five years in Eindhoven.

PSV signed the Swedish international from Malmo in 2009, and he has gone on to make over 130 league appearances for the club, netting 60 goals.

Rennes will be hoping the signing of Toivonen could turn around their stuttering season, with the club currently sitting fifth with only one win in their last six matches.
