Thomas Ouwejan has departed AZ Alkmaar to join Serie A side Udinese on a season long loan deal.

The 23-year-old has been second choice left-back in Alkmaar since Owen Wijndal took his spot last summer, and he has now decided to leave in search of more playing time.

Ouwejan joins Udinese initially on loan, but the Italian side has the option to make the deal permanent next summer.

The defender, who made his debut for AZ in 2007, has signed a new deal until 2023 with the Alkmaar club before departing on loan. He joins fellow Dutchmen Bram Nuytinck, Hidde ter Avest, William Troost-Ekong and Marvin Zeegelaar at the Serie A side.
