Ajax Football affairs director Marc Overmars has spoken to Ajax TV about this summer’s plans for the club.

Ajax have recently been linked with a move for KAA Gent striker Jonathan David, but Overmars has confirmed that the Canadian is not a target for this summer, “If all players who are linked to Ajax also come, we have ten teams. This player is very good, but does not play as a real number 9. He is a shadow striker and we do not need it. “
Overmars also confirmed that a replacement for Hakim Ziyech will not be signed, “We don’t necessarily have to get a replacement for Hakim. We can solve that internally or play differently and someone like Antony is also like Ziyech. He is our first major purchase of the season, even before the corona situation. It is a bit like David Neres, he will have to get used to the Netherlands.”
Andre Onana has made it clear that he is open to leaving Ajax this summer, but Overmars isn’t giving up hope on the Cameroonian goalkeeper staying, “He meets our standards: he has won prizes, has gotten better and is ready for the next step but I really can’t rule out that he will stay another year.”
Nicolas Tagliafico is set to leave Ajax this summer and Overmars understands the left-back’s desire to depart, “With Nico you also reach the age that I understand that he wants to take a step. If that chance is there, then I think you shouldn’t take it away. If the conditions are good for all parties.”
