The KNVB announced on Friday that there would be no relegation this season after the Eredivisie campaign was ended early due to the corona virus. This means that ADO Den Haag stays in the Eredivisie.
According to The Mirror, Alan Pardew had a clause in his contract awarding him a £100,000 bonus if he kept ADO Den Haag safe this season.
However, speaking to Voetbal International, Pardew has dismissed these claims as “Total nonsense,” and promised to donate any bonus he is awarded to charity.
He said, “It is true that I am entitled to a bonus if I had kept the club in the Eredivisie.
“ADO Den Haag is safe, but for a different reason. Formally I might be able to claim that little extra, but you didn’t think I intended to do it, at this time and under these circumstances. The suspicion alone hurts me. I have to check my contract, but if I get a bonus, I don’t even want it. Then I give it back to the club, asking me to do something good with it. As far as I am concerned, that money will go to healthcare in The Hague.”
Pardew is relieved that ADO will stay in the Eredivisie, “We are lucky and need to count our blessings. At the same time, I think it is a justified decision. There were eight games to play and as long as there is a chance of safety, you cannot deprive a club of that. I am not saying that we would have won everything, but I sensed a lot of confidence before the game against Fortuna Sittard that was cancelled. Or rather, determination. We really thought we could make it, but we will never know if it would have worked. “
Pardew is not yet thinking about his future, “We still have to talk to the board and director Mohammed Hamdi. We will all evaluate what has happened in recent months and draw conclusions based on this. I am happy that I entered this adventure. It was not easy to get in halfway through and to strengthen the selection in the winter window. But still I enjoyed every day in The Hague and all those experiences have also made me wiser. What the future looks like is for tomorrow. Let’s all overcome the corona crisis in a healthy and good way. “
