Willem II defeated VVV Venlo 1-0 on Saturday evening thanks to an early goal from Vangelis Pavlidis.

After two straight defeats, Willem II went looking for another victory against VVV. They created chances from the start but Che Nunnely fired wide while Dries Saddiki also put a header off target.

In the 22nd minute, VVV gifted the hosts a goal when Christian Kum rashly brought down Marios Vrousai in the box. Vangelis Pavlidis saw his penalty saved but then followed up on the rebound to make it 1-0.

Willem II then came close to the second goal on several occasions but goalkeeper Thorsten Kirschbaum kept the score down with saves from Mats Köhler, Pavlidis and Vrousai.

In the latter stages of the second half, both sides created chances but the score remained at 1-0 to the hosts.

Willem II are now sitting fifth while VVV are 11th.
