Ron Jans side have been a bogey team for Ajax over the past two seasons, but it was clear from the first whistle that the league leaders were keen to end that run.
Ajax created several excellent chances early on, especially through Viktor Fischer, who slid two shots wide whilst also seeing an effort denied by Kevin Begois. Eventually the visitors took the lead on 37 minutes as Begois failed to claim Mitchell Dijks cross and Amin Younes took advantage of the goalkeepers fumble.
In the second half Ajax continued to dominate but they had to wait until the 87th minute to add their second goal with Thulani Serero finding the net.
Ajax remain three points ahead of second placed Feyenoord in the table, while PEC Zwolle sit eighth.
