The hosts went into the game four points above the relegation places and knew a win would all but seal their safety. They started the game brightly but Nicolai Brock-Madsen failed to punish a mistake by Thomas Bruns before Queensy Menig fired wide.
Ten minutes into the second half, Heracles made PEC Zwolle pay for their lack of composure with Samuel Armenteros sliding the ball into the net from close range.
PEC Zwolle pushed forward looking for the equaliser but that left space for Heracles on the counter and with ten minutes left Armenteros was left in acres of space to net his side’s second. Ted van de Pavert headed PEC Zwolle back into the game with four minutes left but that proved to be only a consolation.
The defeat means PEC Zwolle remain fourteenth with two games left, while Heracles are ninth.
