FC Twente’s poor start to the season continued on Sunday as they went down 2-1 at PEC Zwolle.

pec tweRon Jans side have made a good start to the season with four points from the opening two games, and just before the half hour mark they took the lead against Twente from the penalty spot. Twente defender Bruno Uvini brought down Wouter Marinus just inside the box, and Lars Veldwijk sent Nick Marsman the wrong way from 12 yards.

After the goal Twente sparked into life and they came inches away from equalising as Kevin Begois tipped Hakim Ziyech’s free kick just wide, while Felipe Gutierrez blasted a volley wide after a swift counter attack. A minute into the second half the away side found their deserved equaliser with Ziyech poking Schilder’s cut back past Begois.

However PEC Zwolle regained the lead on 64 minutes through Ben Rienstra, who fired past Marsman after a lay-off by Veldwijk. The goal proved to be the winner as Twente squandered several opportunities to equalise, with Ziyech blasting over in the box and substitute Jari Oosterwijk sent a header wide.

PEC Zwolle move onto seven points, while FC Twente languish near the bottom of the table.
