Ron Jans PEC Zwolle squad had suffered two big blows in the past few weeks after the departure of Jesper Drost and horrific injury to key midfielder Mustafa Saymak, and they got off to a poor start against Cambuur, who dominated the opening half hour at the IJsseldelta Stadion. Mikhail Rosheuvel fired into the side netting, while Kevin Begois was forced into a fine save to deny debutante Xander Houtkoop.
However in the space of three minutes, PEC Zwolle raced into a two goal lead. Firstly on 31 minutes Lars Veldwijk pulled the ball back into the penalty box for Dirk Marcellis to smash into the net, before Ajax loanee Sheraldo Becker found the top corner with a lovely strike from the edge of the box.
Straight after the break Queensy Menig sent a low shot against the post as PEC Zwolle threatened a third, but Cambuur got themselves back into the game on 70 minutes with Erik Bakker sliding the ball past Begois from close range.
Cambuur then equalised six minutes later through Sjoer Overgoor, who played an excellent one-two with Bakker before calmly finishing into the bottom corner. Cambuur could have snatched the win late on, but substitute Valmir Berisha passed up three good opportunities, and the home side held on for a point.
