veldwijk pec kdkdStriker Lars Veldwijk earned a move to England with Nottingham Forest on the back of his performances for Excelsior in the Eerste Divisie. However after failing to impress in Nottingham, Veldwijk returned to Netherlands with PEC Zwolle, and came back to haunt his former club on Saturday.

After 13 minutes the tall forward netted his first goal of the evening, running onto Rick Dekker’s pass before firing past Filip Kurto. On 25 minutes Veldwijk added his second after racing onto Ouasim Bouy’s header from a poor Kurto clearance. Ten minutes into the second half Veldwijk completed his hat-trick with a nice finish from the edge of the box.

With seven minutes left Sander Fischer was shown his second yellow for pulling down Stef Nijland in the box, but the striker’s penalty was saved by Kurto. Before the end Excelsior were reduced to nine men with Tom van Weert also being shown his second yellow card.

Excelsior drop to 14th, while PEC Zwolle climb to 2nd.
