PEC Zwolle have made a winning start in 2018 with Younes Mokhtar’s early strike giving them a 1-0 win over NAC Breda.

The match was only two minutes in before the hosts took the lead with Mokhtar’s strike from 25 yards finding the bottom corner past an unsighted Mark Birighitti.

Terell Ondaan nearly made it 2-0 soon after but the winger couldn’t net after a scramble in the box. After fifteen minutes, NAC got their first chance with Philippe Sandler’s attempted clearance just going past his own post.

Just before the break, NAC got a great chance to equalise when Thierry Ambrose found himself one-on-one with Diederik Boer. However, the striker’s shot was pushed away to safety by the PEC Zwolle stopper.

After the break, PEC Zwolle went in search of a second but Mustafa Saymak was denied twice, while Ondaan saw a shot deflected just wide of the post.

NAC made a late effort to equalise but Boer saved well from Angeliño and then Paolo Fernandes as PEC Zwolle held on.

PEC Zwolle remain fourth with the victory, while NAC are 16th.
