PEC Zwolle returned to winning ways on Saturday with a 3-1 victory over Fortuna Sittard.

Both sides went into the clash with relegation issues, especially PEC Zwolle, who lost their last three games.

After only four minutes, the hosts had the lead with Mustafa Saymak driving a fierce strike into the net. However, the midfielder then succumb to a hamstring injury that forced him off in the 26th minute.

Just before the break, Fortuna Sittard were reduced to ten men after Amadou Ciss lost his head. The striker kicked out in frustration at Sai van Wermeskerken and after it was spotted by VAR, Ciss was shown a straight red.

Just before the hour mark, PEC Zwolle were also reduced to ten men when Reza Ghoochannejhad stamped on Jorrit Smeet’s leg.

Eight minutes later, PEC Zwolle doubled their lead through Illias Bel Hassani. However, Fortuna set up an exciting end as Vitalie Damascan headed one back for the visitors.

In stoppage time, Lennart Thy fired in a third for PEC Zwolle to ease the fears and seal a much needed win.

PEC Zwolle are now 14th while Fortuna sit one spot below them.
