PEC Zwolle have started their Eredivisie campaign with an entertaining 4-2 win over Roda JC.

John van ‘t Schip’s first game in charge of PEC Zwolle didn’t get off to a great start with Roda JC dominating the early stages and taking the lead on 22 minutes. Simon Gustafson, on loan from Feyenoord, was allowed to much time to burst into the box and slide the ball past Diederik Boer.

Before the break, the hosts drew level, though, with Dirk Marcellis getting his head on a corner to net the equaliser. PEC Zwolle began the second half well and took the lead when Younes Mokhtar found Bram van Polen on the left wing and the full back’s cross was converted into his own net by Adil Auassar.

However, the lead lasted less than ten minutes before Roda JC were awarded a penalty for a foul by van Polen and Gustafson netted from the spot to make it 2-2.

PEC Zwolle only needed four minutes to restore their lead through Mustafa Saymak who lobbed the ball over Hidde Jurjus before van Polen settled the win with a strike from distance which should have really been saved by the on loan PSV goalkeeper.
