According to Sky Sports, Feyenoord had a ten percent resale clause inserted in to deal that originally took Pelle to Southampton for €11 million euros back in July 2014. Therefore, the Rotterdam club will now get a €1.5 million euro windfall after Southampton and Shandong Luneng agreed a €15.25 million euro fee for the Italian forward.
Pelle, who turns thirty-one this week, had only one year remaining on his contract with Southampton, so the deal with Shandong Luneng came at the right time for Feyenoord. The Premier League club were believed to be reluctant to offer the Italian an extension, which could have meant Feyenoord missing out on this unexpected pay-out.
With Feyenoord looking for additions, especially on the wings, this dividend could help strengthen the squad further for the forthcoming Eredivise season.
