Cocu said, “To win 20 Eredivisie games in a row is exceptional and very special indeed.

“I do not pay much attention to statistics but we are really close to matching the club record of winning 21 Eredivisie home games in a row.

“Winning so many consecutive Eredivisie games shows that we perform really well at home and we were also mature in our performance again tonight.

“It was very important to win our last game before the winter break and we now look forward to the new year.

“We are top of the Eredivisie but we must continue to be critical especially if the points gap becomes reduced over time.

“We can look back on a good first-half of the season especially coming back from being eliminated in the qualifying rounds of the Europa League. The team has grown together.”

Cocu also gave his opinion on Marcel Keizer’s sacking from Ajax, “I did not expect Marcel Keizer to be relieved of his duties so close to the winter break. Ajax were in good form and it’s never nice when a fellow Eredivisie manager loses his job.”
