Poldervaart was physio of Excelsior Rotterdam for the last 25 years and last season he managed Dutch second division side BVV Barendrecht.

He said, ”It is normal that in the way that Excelsior Rotterdam are developing as a club at the moment that they look at potential managerial candidates who have a lot of experience and who have performed well before offering me the job.

”I am delighted that the players are behind me and I spoke with outgoing Excelsior Rotterdam manager Mitchell van der Gaag at the end of last season having often been with him on the training pitch.

”I am aware of my expected behaviour as manager of Excelsior Rotterdam and my players will also be aware of that. I have always remained the same throughout my time here as physio of the club and I do not envisage any problems in the future as manager of this club.

”I am a hard working manager who wants to play attacking football. I also am a fan of the typical Dutch way of playing football. We must also be realistic at Excelsior Rotterdam. We have performed well in recent years and I want to carry that good work on and add to that.

”I am so proud of our backroom staff in recent years and how well they have performed. My challenge is to match the achievements of recent years with Excelsior Rotterdam and I hope to achieve even more with the club. ”
