The national team will face Scotland in Aberdeen on the 9th of November, before a trip to Bucharest five days later. The friendlies are expected to be Advocaat’s final games as head coach before a new boss takes over to prepare for the Euro 2020 qualifiers.
Wesley Sneijder missed the final two World Cup qualifiers, but he is back in the squad, while Crystal Palace left-back Patrick van Aanholt has also been named.
The full squad is as follows:
Goalkeepers: Jasper Cillessen (Barcelona), Maarten Stekelenburg (Everton), Jeroen Zoet (PSV)
Defenders: Daryl Janmaat (Watford), Kenny Tete (Olympique Lyon), Joel Veltman, Matthijs de Ligt (Ajax), Virgil van Dijk (Southampton), Stefan de Vrij (Lazio), Wesley Hoedt (Southampton), Karim Rekik (Hertha Berlin), Nathan Aké (AFC Bournemouth), Patrick van Aanholt (Crystal Palace)
Midfielders: Daley Blind (Manchester United), Kevin Strootman (AS Roma), Donny van de Beek (Ajax), Marco van Ginkel (PSV), Davy Klaassen (Everton), Tonny Vilhena, Jens Toornstra (Feyenoord), Georginio Wijnaldum (Liverpool), Wesley Sneijder (OGC Nice), Davy Pröpper (Brighton & Hove Albion)
Attackers: Steven Berghuis (Feyenoord), Quincy Promes (Spartak Moscow), Bas Dost (Sporting Lisbon), Vincent Janssen (Fenerbahçe), Jürgen Locadia (PSV), Ryan Babel, Jeremain Lens (Besiktas), Memphis Depay (Olympique Lyon), Eljero Elia (Istanbul Basaksehir)
A major purpose of these friendlies is to experiment to try to find good setups and options going forward.
What is the point of continuing to select players like Veltman and De Ligt (who are clearly not up to scratch right now) or Klaassen and Sneijder (who are barely playing)?
Failure to try players such as Pieters, Fer, and De Roon, all of whom regularly play in competitions tougher than the Eredivisie, even in low-stakes friendly games, is disgraceful.
Agree with Bobb Cobb 111 there. We need now to try new players and tactics. Perhaps Advocaat is just finishing his term and go. He does not care about the future.
I am a great fan of National Oranje…. I was shocked to know that won’t go to Russia 2018….
I think it’s now time to give chance all young players ( from 18 to 20 years old ) to build a new team for the future….
