After being held by ADO Den Haag last week, it was important for PSV to get off to a good start in their first home game of the season, and after only six minutes Luciano Narsingh slotted them into the lead after racing onto Maxime Lestienne’s excellent through ball.
PSV dominated the rest of the first period but failed to turn their possession into chances, with a wayward Davy Propper shot the closest they came to a 2nd goal before the break.
The second half saw PSV continue to push for a second goal with Narsingh sending a shot onto the roof of the net, while Adam Maher sent a shot just wide of the post. As the second half went on the home crowd started to get nervous, but eventually PSV sealed the win in the 76th minute as Narsingh cut in from the left before firing into the bottom corner.
Lestienne nearly added his first PSV goal soon after but Padt kept out the winger’s shot, while at the other end Michael de Leeuw’s header was kept out on the line by Jeroen Zoet.
A first victory for PSV and they jump into the top five, while Groningen remain on one point.
I thought there were a few good sparks of flair. If Cocu can get this team to gel I think we could be looking at a decent season for PSV.
