PSV had missed all four of their penalties this season, but they banished that demon on Saturday evening with Gaston Pereiro netting from the spot on 12 minutes after he was brought down in the box.
Just before the break, it should have been 2-0 but after being played in on goal by Oleksandr Zinchenko, Bart Ramselaar fired over the bar.
Five minutes into the second half, PSV did make it 2-0 through Luuk de Jong who met Zinchenko’s cross to head into the net and end his 905-minute goal drought. Moments later Zinchenko sent De Jong in on goal with an excellent pass and the striker lifted the ball over goalkeeper Ernestas Setkus to make it 3-0.
Out of nowhere, ADO Den Haag gave themselves hope as Gervane Kastaneer raced through on goal before being taken down by Jeroen Zoet to earn the visitors a penalty, which Tom Beugelsdijk netted. ADO Den Haag could have made it a nervy end for PSV but Mike Havenaar’s effort on 78 minutes came back off the post.
The win ensures PSV put the pressure on leaders Feyenoord, who have a three-point lead over the champions going into their game on Sunday. ADO Den Haag drop to 14th.
