As expected, Siem de Jong was handed his debut for PSV in place of his suspended brother Luuk while Steven Bergwijn and Bart Ramselaar were brought into the side that lost to Feyenoord at the weekend.
After a quiet opening 25 minutes, PSV took the lead with Davy Propper’s shot from just inside the box squirming under the body of Roda goalkeeper Yves De Winter. Nine minutes later it was 2-0 as Gaston Pereiro rose in the box to powerfully head in Santiago Arias’s perfect cross. It should have been 3-0 before the break but Ramselaar fired into the side-netting after racing into the box before De Jong passed up two good chances to net his first goal for the club.
Propper finally found the hosts third on the hour mark with a shot from distance before substitute Luciano Narsingh wrapped up the victory with a lovely run into the box before chipping the ball over De Winter and into the net. PSV could have added more goals before the end with Bergwijn going close on several occasions, while 19-year-old debutant Sam Lammers was denied from close range by De Winter.
