PSV boss Ernest Faber decided to hand Ricardo Rodriguez his debut at left-back while Ryan Thomas started up front in a 4-4-2 formation alongside Sam Lammers.
The change of tactics worked as PSV put in their best performance for a while and they deservedly had the lead just after the half-hour mark when Denzel Dumfries scored a solo goal.
Willem II barely threatened and twenty minutes from time, PSV doubled their lead when Cody Gakpo crossed for Thomas to fire in his first goal for the club.
Just before the end it became 3-0 when Mike Trésor Ndayishimiye misread a passback and ended up firing the ball into his own net.
PSV are still 5th after the win but close the gap on fourth placed Willem II to just one point.
