PSV Eindhoven are now a point behind leaders Ajax after a 3-1 win at Excelsior.

hendrix psv excAjax dropping points against Heracles on Tuesday presented a great chance to PSV, and they wasted no time in taking the lead against Excelsior with Luuk de Jong heading in Andres Guardado’s cross after only eight minutes.

The home side didn’t roll over though, and Tom van Weert forced Jeroen Zoet into an excellent save moments after the PSV opener, while Adil Aoussar and Jeff Stans also went close to an equaliser.

However, three minutes into the second half PSV killed the game off, with Jorrit Hendrix sending a lovely volley into the top corner after the midfielder won his side possession back in midfield. On the hour mark Luciano Narsingh continued his fine goalscoring form by gliding into the box before curling the ball into the net for the visitors third.

Jurgen Locadia then missed several chances as PSV continue to push forward, but it was Excelsior who found the net before the end with Jeffrey Bruma sliding the ball into his own net as he looked to prevent Tom van Weert tapping in.

The victory means PSV now lie one point behind Ajax with De Graafschap visitors to Eindhoven this weekend. Excelsior are now nearing the relegation zone, with only six points separating the Rotterdammers from bottom spot.
