DE JON PSThe 27-year-old midfielder was medically approved on Sunday evening and PSV have now confirmed that De Jong has signed a deal to return to the Eredivisie until the end of the season.

De Jong joined Newcastle United two years ago but his time in England has been filled with injuries and the former Ajax captain has only made 27 appearances for the club. Newcastle boss Rafael Benitez has now sanctioned his return to the Netherlands, where De Jong will be playing alongside his younger brother Luuk.

Speaking to the PSV official website, De Jong said, “I am very happy that PSV has come in for me,” he told the club’s official website.

“I am fit and can actually train with the group. In the coming weeks I need to work on my rhythm.

“It is also very nice to come to a club playing in the Champions League and fighting for the title.

“I am grateful to PSV.”

On playing alongside his brother, he added, “I am really looking forward to it. It has been a long desire for both of us. It will be very special when it happens soon.”
