Giovanni van Bronckhorst’s side had won all three of their league games so far this season and they headed to Eindhoven with confidence of beating PSV, who have stumbled to draws in two of their opening three matches.
Feyenoord began brightly and after four minutes they shocked the Phillips Stadion by taking the lead as Bilal Basacikoglu’s wicked cross was slid into his own net by Jeffrey Bruma.
The visitors then decided to sit back and invited pressure from PSV, with Luuk de Jong blasting the ball over in the box, Luciano Narsingh testing Kenneth Vermeer with a fierce drive and Bruma heading a corner just wide. On 36 minutes the equaliser did eventually come with Davy Propper chipping the ball over Feyenoord’s defence for Maxime Lestienne to run onto and the winger fired past Vermeer.
PSV continued to dominate after the equaliser and five minutes into the second half Narsingh found Santiago Arias in the box, and the right back rolled the ball past Vermeer to make it 2-1.
Jeroen Zoet had to be sharp of his line twice to deny Basacikoglu twice, while Nicolas Isimat-Mirin was lucky to see his attempted clearance bounce to safety off the post as Feyenoord looked for an equaliser. However the game was then put beyond doubt as Bjorn Kuipers pointed to the spot after Davy Propper was challenged by debutante Eljero Elia. Jurgen Locadia stepped up to fire PSV to a 3-1 lead and guaranteed the victory.
PSV now leap up to sixth in the table heading into the international break, while Feyenoord drop to 3rd.
An entertaining and odd game. No feyenoord was not going to go undefeated. We had plenty of chances to win this game. PSV owned the first half, yet it was tied. feyenoord owned the second half and PSV scored twice. it happens. the PK was BS, but that goes both ways.
I said before the season that we should be able to get 25ish points out of the first 10 games. I thought PSV on the road would be tough. So we are on schedule.
I would like to see some help in the MF. Fer would look great there! Still 2 days left…..
