Siem De Jong has been out of action for both games against Sparta Rotterdam, which saw PSV labour to a 1-0 win in the Eredivise and suffer a shock cup exit, with a calf injury. However, an MRI scan has revealed that there is no damage to the calf, so De Jong has been able to resume training with the team.
In spite of this, it is not yet clear whether De Jong will return to the PSV line up for Saturday’s game against Vitesse. This will depend how the midfielder, signed from Newcastle United this summer, responds to the training, with PSV keen to avoid aggravating the injury further.
Luciano Narsingh
PSV are still awaiting confirmation on the hamstring injury Luciano Narsingh sustained in the 3-1 KNVB Beker defeat to Sparta Rotterdam. Narsingh told VI, “I have to go to the physiotherapist. I hope it’s not serious.” The results of the scan are expected soon, with Phillip Cocu now facing an anxious wait on a key member of the squad.
It is very unlikely that Narsingh will feature against Vitesse, a game the Eindhoven side must win to avoid losing even further ground to Feyenoord and Ajax in the title race.
