Mark van Bommel decided to bring Mohamed Ihattaren, Michal Sadilek, Timo Baumgartl and Bruma back into the starting eleven after they were all rested in the midweek win over Groningen. For PEC Zwolle, Reza Ghoochannejhad started up front.
Both sides traded half-chances in the opening stages before PEC Zwolle had a great opportunity to take the lead on 30 minutes. Ghoochannejhad found himself with a sight of goal but his effort was kept out by an excellent Jeroen Zoet save.
PSV then made PEC Zwolle pay for that miss nine minutes later as Pablo Rosario found the net with a strong strike to register his second goal in two games.
Donyell Malen nearly made it 2-0 before the break but his strike was touched just over the bar. Five minutes into the second half, Van Bommel made his first change with Ritsu Doan coming on for Bruma.
Malen eventually made it 2-0 in the 68th minute with a strike into the bottom corner before Doan added a third with his first goal for PSV. The midfielder rounded off a lovely attack to become the first Japanese international to score for the club.
Substitute Erick Gutierrez added a simple fourth in injury time after Malen’s strike had been parried.
A comfortable afternoon for PSV, who remain second on goal difference, while PEC Zwolle are 15th. PSV must now prepare for Thursday’s Europa League clash against Rosenborg.
