On the back of the 0-0 draw with Atletico Madrid in midweek, PSV resumed league duties on Saturday as they looked to remain in charge at the top of the table with victory over ADO Den Haag.
Phillip Cocu’s side dominated the first half, but failed to find a way through a stubborn defence, with Hector Moreno’s effort which came back off the crossbar the closest anyone came to breaking the deadlock.
The chances continued to come and go in the second half for PSV, until eventually on 72 minutes, a free kick fell to the feet of Jurgen Locadia, and his shot was flicked into the net by Marco van Ginkel.
Ten minutes later Andres Guardado’s free kick sent Luuk de Jong through on goal, and the striker held off a challenge before netting his fiftieth goal for the club.
The victory moves PSV four points ahead of Ajax, who face AZ on Sunday, while ADO Den Haag sit 13th.
