Van Gaal took over the Netherlands job in 2012, but before then the coach had been out of work after leaving his troubled spell as a director with Ajax. The now Manchester United boss fell out with Ajax coach Ronald Koeman and club legend Johan Cruyff before leaving.
Speaking to Voetbal International, PSV director Marcel Brands revealed that he wanted to appoint Van Gaal as the club’s coach, but his fellow board member’s didn’t like the idea due to his troubles at Ajax.
Brands said, “Van Gaal was interested and I think he would have come,”
“I think he would have been a great manager for PSV, but not everyone inside the club agreed with me.
“There were a lot of mixed feelings about him at the club. Louis had problems when he resigned at Ajax as football director. That was all very sensitive.
