The Eindhoven Dagblad are reporting that Zenit st Petersburg tabled a €10 million bid for Wijnaldum, which was swiftly rejected by PSV Eindhoven.
PSV will only listen to offers between €15-20 million for the 24-year-old, who has expressed his desire to move away from the Philips Stadion this summer, but its unclear whether he would favour a move to Russia.
Newcastle United have also been strongly linked with the midfielder, who made a big impression during Netherlands 2-0 win over Latvia earlier this month. Wijnaldum was voted the best player in the Eredivisie by De Telegraaf this season after netting 14 goals in 33 games.
For what other players are going for 10m is an insult.
Minimum 20m in my opinion.
He needs to join a club that has long term plans for him.
A club that will build a team around him and two others, ie in the 6,8,10 roles. Otherwise he could end up being used as a utility player off the bench, playing out wide or fitting in somewhere in the middle when needed.
I hope he and his agent see this.
They want to be careful or they could ruin what has been a brilliant career to date.
