PSV Eindhoven have returned to the top of the Eredivisie after a comfortable 4-0 win over PEC Zwolle.

Mark van Bommel’s selections have come under scrutiny after the 3-1 loss to Ajax, who moved above PSV on Wednesday due to a simple win at Emmen. With a victory vital for his side, van Bommel decided to pick Gaston Pereiro in his starting line-up once again in place of Michal Sadilek.

The hosts began the game slowly and failed to create a clear chance until the 23rd minute. Daniel Schwaab headed a free-kick towards goal but Mickey van der Hart made a great reflex save. Moments later though it was 1-0 for PSV with Luuk de Jong left free to head a corner into the net.

It should have been 2-0 ten minutes before the break but after being played in on goal, Hirving Lozano fired inches wide.

A second goal eluded PSV until the 62nd minute when Steven Bergwijn picked up the ball in his own half before going on an excellent solo run into the box and then slotting past van der Hart.

Fifteen minutes later, PSV added their third as De Jong nodded in his second of the game at the back post.

Cody Gakpo thought he had made it 4-0 when he steered the ball in at close range, but VAR ruled it out for a marginal offside. Moments later, PSV did get another goal with Donyell Malen heading in with the last action of the game.

The victory moves PSV back above Ajax to the top of the league ahead of their trip to Vitesse this Sunday. PEC Zwolle are 12th.
