PSV, who hammered Utrecht 7-0 last weekend, started the game sluggishly and that allowed Willem II to grow in confidence. The visitors nearly took the lead before the break when Jeroen Zoet pushed Fran Sol’s shot into the path of Ben Rienstra, but the midfielder could only fire over with the goal gaping.
Four minutes into the second half, PSV took the lead through Hirving Lozano, who latched onto Steven Bergwijn’s deflected through ball before lifting the ball over Timon Wellenreuther and into the top corner. Six minutes later, Gaston Pereiro nodded in a second from close range, before Lozano quickly got the third with a header from Marco van Ginkel’s cross.
With twenty minutes left, PSV were awarded a harsh penalty for what looked like a good challenge on Jurgen Locadia by Wellenreuther. Van Ginkel slotted in the spot kick to make it 4-0.
PSV then handed a league debut to Dante Rigo before the end as they comfortably saw out the match and got the three points which means they will definitely be top heading into the international break. Willem II stay second bottom.
