PSV went into the tie bottom of the group, and with Wolfsburg beating CSKA Moscow in the group’s earlier tie, the Dutch side knew a win was needed for a realistic chance to qualify for the next round.
After an impressive fifteen minutes PSV took the lead through Albert Gudmundsson. Ten minutes later it was 2-0 as Ramon Pascal Lundqvist sent a header past Manchester United goalkeeper Dean Henderson.
Geert Brusselers side were in complete control and before the break Dirk Ebels made it 3-0 after great work by Gudmundsson.
In the second half PSV didn’t take their foot off the gas and after Sam Lammers made it 4-0 from a corner, substitute Joey Konings headed in a fifth.
PSV are now third in the group, but a win over CSKA Moscow in two weeks will seal their place in the next round.
