PSV Eindhoven lost their second Champions League group match on Wednesday with Inter Milan coming away from the Philips Stadion with a 2-1 victory.

After their loss to Barcelona two weeks ago, PSV knew they needed a result against Inter to get their campaign back on track.

Mark van Bommel’s side began brightly with Steven Bergwijn scuffing a great chance over the bar, while Angelino couldn’t get his pass to Hirving Lozano right on a two-on-one break. In the 28th minute, PSV got the opener with Pablo Rosario rifling an excellent strike into the top corner from outside the box.

Mauro Icardi went close with two headers, one with went just wide while the other was kept out by Zoet, as Inter took control in search of an equaliser. However, at the other end, PSV could be very aggrieved when Inter goalkeeper Handanovic deliberately handled the ball outside the box to prevent Steven Bergwijn getting in on goal. To the shock of the Philips Stadion, only a yellow card was brought out.

Before the break, the PSV fans mood was worsened as Inter equalised through Radja Nainggolan, who fired past Zoet after the goalkeeper failed to claim two other strikes.

Early in the second half, Icardi went close for Inter while at the other end, Gaston Pereiro curled a strike against the outside of the post.

On the hour-mark, a long ball over the top set Icardi through on goal and after Zoet collided with Schwaab, the striker was left with an empty net to fire Inter into the lead.

Icardi was denied a second by Zoet before PSV pushed for a late equaliser. The closest they came was a fantastic overhead kick by Donyell Malen which was kept out by Handanovic.

A second defeat for PSV leaves them facing an uphill battle to finish in the top two. Next up is a clash with Tottenham Hotspur, who also have two defeats so far.
