Last week, Alflen was named as the new NEC head coach in the Dutch press, but that was before the club was relegated to the Eerste Divisie. With so much change and turmoil behind the scenes in Nijmegen, Alflen has now confirmed that he will remain with Heracles Almelo.

Alflen said, ”I have pulled out of negotiations to become NEC Nijmegen manager. There was too much going on behind the scenes and I did not have a good feeling about it.

”The people that I spoke to in Nijmegen about the manager’s post have since left or are leaving. Here at Heracles Almelo, I have a good feeling about everyone and that is part of the reason why I have decided to stay at this club.”

Rob Alflen only previous club as a manager was at FC Utrecht in the 2014/15 season. He has been assistant manager of Heracles Almelo since January 2016.
